FACILITIES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
The Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Lodz offers study facilities for people with disabilities.
INFRASTRUCTURE
The University’s modern facilities are adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The buildings have wide corridors, elevators with voice communicator and adapted bathrooms (toilet rooms). All students can use the Wi-Fi network.
STUDENT’S OFFICE
General services for students with disabilities and candidates for studies are provided by the staff of the Student’s Office.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
The University provides financial assistance to students with disabilities. A special scholarship for persons with disabilities may be received by a regular student or doctoral student due to a disability confirmed by a decision of a competent authority, after submitting the appropriate document with the application to the Student’s Office (Department of Teaching, Studies and Student Affairs). The amount of the special grant for individuals with disabilities depends on the degree of the student’s/doctoral student’s declared disability (i.e., significant, moderate, mild degree). The rules for granting and payment of allowances, including detailed criteria and procedure for providing material aid benefits, are established by the Rules and Regulations for granting financial assistance to regular students and doctoral students.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE
The University provides psychological help to students with disabilities.
LIBRARY
- The building in which the Library is located has no architectural barriers. Access to all rooms including the lending library and reading room located on the first floor is facilitated by an elevator and wide corridors.
- The reading room workspaces allow for their free rearrangement, as well as adjusting the height of the tables, so they can be adapted, for example, to the needs of people using wheelchairs.
- The software of the computers in the reading room, as a standard feature, allows them to be adapted for people with low vision or who cannot use a mouse or keyboard.
- Every user of the Library has the possibility to use the Internet via Wi-Fi, and if necessary there is also the option of connecting their own equipment and a fixed Internet line.
- People with disabilities can always use the assistance of Library staff in accessing the resources and services, for example carrying materials to be copied.
SOUND ARCHIVE (AUDIO LIBRARY, PHONOTHEQUE)
The Library and Sound Archive are located in the University’s modern building.
Wide doors, no thresholds, and a conference-style layout of audition tables with side access to the headphone stations, enable seamless use of the collections on site, especially since all the technical support is handled by a Sound Library staff member.
A similar setup also applies to the workstations for self-digitization of recordings from analog records to mp3 format as well as ordering copies of CDs for educational purposes.
