Bachelor’s & Master’s studies

 
FOR STUDENTS

The harpsichord studies prepare the student for the profession of a solo instrumentalist, chamber musician and a teacher. Students deepen their knowledge, improve their performance skills and shape the artistic personality. The studies teach comfortable use of the playing apparatus, phrasing and operating with varied sound timbre, among other things. Studying this instrument also allows the Student to become familiar with the ornamentation in the harpsichord works characteristic of a particular composer. Students have the opportunity to perform at various events, including concerts like Harpsichord and Early Music, and the Contemporary Harpsichord Music Seminar “Harpsichord without borders”. Since 2015, the Institute of Organ, Sacred Music, Harpsichord and Early Instruments has been the organizer of the Lodz Bach Marathon, a festival dedicated to the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons. A special place in the annual calendar of events is occupied by the projects of MuOB - that is, the Inter-University Baroque Orchestra, created through the cooperation of music universities in Łódź, Poznań and Wrocław.
The study program includes various subjects, including: harpsichord, chamber music, basso continuo theory, organ, improvisation, realization of basso continuo.

 
GRADUATE PROFILE

The Graduate is qualified to be an instrumental musician: soloist and chamber musician, can continue to develop his/her skills in postgraduate studies, is a comprehensively educated musician, an instrumentalist possessing broad theoretical and practical knowledge enabling independent stage activity, on the basis of the experience gained during his/her studies, through a conscious choice of specialization, independently plans his/her further professional career.

 

BACHELOR’S STUDIES

The Bachelor's degree studies in Instrumental Music are addressed to musically talented candidates who wish to continue their musical education and, above all, to perfect their instrumental skills on a chosen instrument.

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS
BACHELOR’S STUDIES

MAIN INSTRUMENT

Performance of a programme within the scope of the Secondary Music School Diploma.

  • J.S. Bach - Prelude and fugue or Fantaisie and fugue or a work including a fugue.
  • Pre-classical or classical sonata (e.g. J.Ch. Bach, W.F. Bach, C.Ph.E. Bach, J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven).
  • A virtuoso piece.
  • A free composition.

OTHER BASIC EXAMINATIONS

  • Self-Preparation of a piece of music (during one hour)
  • Sight-reading
MASTER’S STUDIES

MAIN INSTRUMENT

  • J. S. Bach – a large-scale form.
  • A work from the French Baroque period.
  • A free-form piece.

INTERVIEW CONCERNING

  • the candidate's motivation for continuing studies;
  • the candidate's specialized interests and expectations regarding the candidate's chosen specialisation;
  • the candidate's career plans.
